Story
My younger sister Fuyuka, who hated working at the inn and had gone off to be an office lady in the city, has come back to Shirasagi-kan. Though I call her my sister, there is a story behind it: in truth we are stepsisters. It seems she heard an unsavory rumor that, as a hidden specialty of the inn, the mistress provides intensely intimate hospitality. Taking this as the last cry of the failing Shirasagi-kan, she returned. But Fuyuka understands nothing. That is only natural, but I cannot forgive her for taking such hospitality lightly. So, after consulting with Kenji, I decided to let her experience it once for herself.
Our take
Ryokan Shirasagi Nihakume is the second night at the same inn, and the rule of never stepping outside the building still holds. Yuriko Shiratori stays at the center as Fuyuka returns.
The cover mirrors the first volume. She kneels on the veranda with a bamboo fence, a stone water basin and clipped hedges behind her, in the same deep green kimono and violet obi. Lines stay thick, highlights on cheek and throat are sparing, and the cel look is intact.
Watched in order with the first night, the closed stage does more work each time. Study the kimono and garden palette in the sample stills.
