Story
The time is the 19th century. In a certain Western European country there existed a political group that used high-class courtesans to manipulate the powerful of the age from behind the scenes. However, due to a certain scandal they disbanded, and became fugitives hunted by the state. Of course Foster, who had been in charge of training the courtesans, now kept his head down, resigned to a fallen way of life. One day, Foster is invited by the railway magnate Dread. His request was to train a certain girl and mold her into someone who could earn money. Her name was Claire Barton.
Our take
A period hentai anime set in 19th-century Western Europe, issued by Discovery as the first volume of Kara no Naka no Kotori. Claire Barton carries the title, and the back cover lists cast and staff beside a world of manors and fallen patrons.
The artwork is cel-era craft: thick confident outlines, shadows blocked in flat planes, a restrained palette of blue, ivory and chestnut. The front gives most of its space to downcast eyes, a ruffled white headpiece and curled auburn hair.
Thirty minutes in 4:3, numbered for volumes to follow. The samples show how the drawing holds that fin-de-siecle air.
