Story
Foster, who was a member of a political group that manipulated the powers of the age from the shadows using high-class courtesans, encounters a single Japanese woman in the city. Living all alone in a shack under a bridge and waiting for someone at the station every day, her name is Yuki Ren. Ren has lost her memory, and the only clue to her past is that she was waiting at the station for 'her father to come pick her up.' Foster decides to take Ren into the mansion where he lives, but...
Our take
A late-1990s cel-animated maid drama, the second entry in the Kara no Naka no Kotori series. The cover frames Ren Yuki in a white headdress, her deep blue-green hair drawn in hard zigzag highlights, her eyes nearly blank.
The art is pre-digital: thin brittle outlines, flat block shadows, interiors sunk in brown and black. Under a rain-soaked bridge the figure stays small inside a heavy coat, while only the mansion is lit brighter, so the lighting gap carries the isolation.
As a sequel it inherits the first work rather than restarting it, leaning on eye-lines and silence instead of effects. Check the quieter frames in the samples.
