Story
The professor and the others, who had been searching everywhere for the vanished Ruri, finally sense Ruri's presence at the foot of Mt. Fuji. But the one there was no longer the girl they knew. Absorbing the life force of every living thing around her, Ruri laughs boldly and prepares to begin her revenge against the humans she hates. They try to stop Ruri, but Kaoruri gets absorbed into her instead. Even Ayaka's exorcising slashes show no sign of working on the current Ruri. Amid that wicked hatred, the professor draws closer to Ruri even as his life force is drained. Will the professor's feelings reach Ruri?
Our take
Shin Ruriiro no Yuki volume four closes a Japanese fantasy series built around Ruri, a blonde yuki-onna snow spirit. The source is a PC game by Aile Team-Riva, and this is the final act.
The cover is deceptively bright: cream ground, a violet title band, Ruri smiling out with gold hair spilling across the frame. In the samples that same face carries red irises and a curled mouth. Night forest scenes sink into blue and black with only a white hem left glowing, so contrast does the talking.
As the endpoint of a numbered run, this is where the character design swings furthest from where it began. Watch the expressions change in the samples.
