Story
Doctor Manabe, who loves science and invention, is set to move into an apartment where the parents of his childhood friend Yoko are the landlords. It's a notorious unit rumored to be haunted, but drawn in by the ridiculously cheap rent, Doctor decides to move in. The move goes off without a hitch, and while preparing a housewarming celebration with Yoko's older brother Hisashi, some machine parts scattered on the floor short-circuit and explode, blowing a hole in the floor. Then, from inside a strange jar in that hole, a blonde snow woman appears. Her name is Ruri. And so, one day, out of nowhere, a shared life between Doctor and the snow woman Ruri began...
Our take
Shin Ruriiro no Yuki opens a Japanese fantasy OVA line adapted from the Aile Team-Riva PC game. A cheap apartment rumored to be haunted turns out to hold a blonde yuki-onna named Ruri.
The cover is a cold field of white and pale blue snowfall with Ruri's gold hair as the only warm mass, her white robe edged in violet under a blue head cloth, green eyes set quietly. Thick main lines and flat cel paint, typical of 2000, make the snow and the steam read whiter still.
This is the starting point of the run, with Ogawa Fuyumi as Ruri. Open the samples and look at how the winter palette is designed.
