Cain goes with Ciffone on an incognito inspection tour of his domain. There, they come across a servant market being held in the back streets, which is forbidden. Cain apprehends the servant merchants and takes in the pitiable Tia, who was about to be sold after being subjected to obscene acts. In thanks for saving her, Tia begins working diligently as a servant. Around that time, Rose, the widowed lord of the neighboring domain, comes to pay her respects. While kindly teaching him the mindset a lord should have, she also comes on to Cain. She is famous as a killer of younger men. Rose remarks to Cain, who surrounds himself with only women, 'You'll never want for bedmates, will you?' Cain learns for the first time that a lord can freely do as he pleases with the women under his command, as many as he likes. Then one day, a letter from Francis arrives for Cain. It demands the return of land said to have once been his own domain...
