Sorrow: The Servant 2
哀・従僕2
Story
In order to become a flower of high society like her beloved mother, Rachel was brought by an envoy of Marquis Lyuse. She looked up at the old castle wrapped in dim gloom with a face mixed with expectation and unease. She never wanted to return to the convent again. Her only lingering regret was parting from Andrew, her first love... From Lyuse, Rachel learns that many trials await before she can debut in high society, and that beyond clearing them all lies the path of the ai-doll (sorrow-servant). Before long, Lyuse begins to speak about the rules she must obey here. To regard everyone in the castle as her master and obey them; not to take care of herself by herself; to follow all the systematically arranged lessons (intellectual lessons in the morning, sexual lessons from the afternoon); not to leave the castle without permission. And that if she breaks those rules, she must receive a harsh punishment. At that moment, someone was prying open both of Rachel's legs as she listened intently to the talk...
Our take
This is the second entry in the Vanilla Series title Ai Doll, a gothic fantasy set in a European castle, credited to Hayakawa Naomi and produced in 2000. A vertical line on the sleeve points the heroine Rachel toward high society.
The cover sinks into night blue and black, rose vines coiling around the figure, only the crimson petals lifting off the dark. The castle behind her stands in silhouette. The animation is turn-of-the-century cel work: fine outlines, hard two-tone shadows, chestnut hair as the one soft element.
Inside that closed setting, changing expressions carry the passage of time. Samples show the rose and stonework palette.
