Story
Marsha, who played the bully at the boarding school where Rachel spent her girlhood, has fallen on hard times: her family ruined, she has sunk to being a streetwalker in town. One night, she serves a gentleman wearing an eye mask. The man seems to have become sexually impotent ever since being wounded on the battlefield. She learns he frequents prostitutes as treatment for it. Marsha happens to reunite with Rachel and learns that the eye-masked gentleman is Rachel's uncle, Marquis Luce. Having learned the secret, Marsha blackmails Luce and gets money out of him. She further tries to torment Rachel by tipping off a newspaper, but is instead disposed of by Rachel's agents. Luce is grateful to Rachel for saving the marquisate from scandal. And he begins to confess that the cause of his impotence lies elsewhere. Rachel lends her ear to the story of an unusually feeble Luce...
Our take
The fourth entry in this Vanilla Series line trades school corridors for a European aristocratic setting. The cover shows Rachel in a white gown holding roses, credited on the package to Naomi Hayakawa.
It is 2001 cel animation, and the effort went into petals, lace and long white gloves. Pink, red and yellow roses against green eyes make the front a self-contained image, while the back panels drop into dim interiors and shadowed manor halls.
