With the help of a monster, Erika barely escaped the occupation army with her life. Yet the shock of the abduction and assault by the occupation forces left Erika tormented by nightmares. Kaiya and Akira watch over her tenderly. But the elder hands Erika over to the occupation army. To save her, Kaiya sets off alone toward the occupation forces... A monster showdown, abduction, assault, nuclear weapons... it all builds to a shocking climax!
Our take
Fantasy war meets monster action in this second half of Shitsurakuen, a Vanilla Series entry. The cover sets a winged nude figure against open sky, while the back plays up monsters, invasion and warfare in heavy type.
The art is 2008 cel work: thick outlines, flat shading, and a narrow palette of sky blue, olive uniforms and grey stonework. Rock faces and ramparts favor clear silhouettes over detail, and close-ups lean on flushed cheeks and half-lidded eyes rather than motion.
It closes the arc opened in part one, so the village, the wings and the red sky read as a single line. Start with the samples to judge the linework for yourself.
