Story
The empress-absolute-superiority work "SLEEPLESS" created by Empress's original author "Seishojo," and its sequel "SLEEPLESS Nocturne," arrive as an adult anime. Kawai Yuki and Komori Yukino, a college couple who have only just started dating. On an unfamiliar drive date, their car breaks down, and seeking help they head toward a mansion they spotted along the way. A Western-style mansion standing quietly deep in the mountains, the Black Rose Mansion. That they will become prey at a bizarre banquet there, the two do not yet know... *No bonus footage is included.
Our take
A gothic mansion sets the tone in Showten's adaptation of the Empress title SLEEPLESS, which follows a college couple who reach a house of black roses deep in the hills.
The cover is Art Nouveau in style, with a gilt frame, moon phases and blue roses arranged around a bespectacled heroine in profile. The scenes inside reverse that, sinking into candlelit reds and purples where staircases and black maid uniforms hold the dark. The gap between the two is the point of the design.
This is the first of two volumes, and the women hold the initiative throughout. Look at the samples for the color work.
