Story
When Jun answers the phone, the caller is Keiko. "Jun-kun? Ah... why does it have to be you... If you do that to me, I'll... Um, tomorrow... at the café in the station building..."—and with just that, the call cuts off. Jun is asked by Sai about the call, but unable to tell her it was from Keiko, he plays it off with a fudge. Though they hadn't even decided a meeting time, as if by arrangement, Keiko and Jun appear at the same hour. The two entwine their bodies as if there had never been a time they couldn't meet. Keiko says she can't go back to Sai anymore. Keiko shakes off Jun as he tries to cling to her and walks away. Sai happens to witness that scene. The next day, Jun is dispirited, still hung up on yesterday's events. Sai pretends to worry about Jun. Jun only gives listless replies. Sai practically drags Jun along and takes him to her home...
Our take
A schoolgirl, her mother and the boy standing between them: this second half of Classmate no Okaasan plays as a quiet chamber drama. It is a 2007 Vanilla Series title based on the Guilty+ original.
The cel-era look is intact, with thin outlines, near two-tone shading and warm interior light. A cafe window, a wooden floor and evening orange carry nearly every scene, while long black hair against twintails keeps the two women readable in close-ups.
It resolves the single phone call that opened part one, ending on the gap between the one who leaves and the one who stays. Try the samples if restrained period coloring appeals to you.
