To grasp their situation, Will goes into town with the three sisters. There they run into that very nun. The three sisters call out to the nun who resembles their mother, but she tells them, "I have no children..." Told this, not even Celia, who remembers their mother's face, can declare for certain that it's her, and the two younger ones, who don't remember the face, can do nothing at all. Miao, who had gone back to town because she was concerned about the nun, watches the sisters, and afterward tells them about Cajou, which she heard from the cats. Little Monica — the name the city itself was named after — was the last descendant of a family that had managed the theater for generations, back when the city was truly prosperous. Her existence was a symbol of the citizens' happiness. Cajou, who tried to seize the city, slashed Little Monica from behind to be rid of her, but the body of the woman who should have died vanished into thin air. Her family had the special power to become spirits and enter other people's bodies, so she's most likely hiding herself that way.
