Our take
Youkai mystery moves to a hot-spring inn. This second episode of the Hyakkiya detective series folds Japanese folklore horror into a whodunit, from an original by b-gooon.
The cover keeps a narrow palette: vermilion pillars, sakura-pink steam, a deep navy kimono scattered with red crests. Line work is thin and soft, pink monster coils wind around the figures, and white spray cuts diagonally across the frame. The blonde with fox-ear ornaments and the blue-haired girl get clearly separated expressions.
With the case confined to one inn, the episode is easy to enter cold. Check the samples for how far the folklore art direction goes.
