It was right when he had just advanced to his third year of university that Masaki Asakura met Saori. She was the child brought along by Emiko, whom his father Taizo had remarried. To him, Saori seemed to sparkle radiantly. And for Saori's part, the same sort of feeling sprouted for him too. A month later, Taizo died in a traffic accident. Emiko takes over the talent agency her husband ran, "Asakura Production," and tries to make Saori, who aspires to be a singer, realize her dream. Just then, a popular variety show was about to decide the regular slot for a trio of girls. Emiko tries to launch Saori together with Yuna and Erika, two girls stuck in a slump at her company, as a unit called "TWINKLE." Masaki, entrusted by his stepmother as their manager with the words "Protect Saori properly," takes an unbelievable method to make the two girls behave.
Our take
Idol industry hentai anime set around a talent agency and a three-girl unit, this is the first half of Spotlight from the Vanilla series. The cover puts a performer at a mic stand under violet and red light that reads as a gaze with no exit.
Early 2000s cel animation with a deliberate lighting scheme: backgrounds sink into dark indigo while hard highlights fall only on the figures. Frilled costumes, thigh-high boots and brown twin tails give the classic idol silhouette.
Based on the BLUE GALE original, it plays as a setup piece with the second half still to come. Check the samples for the gap between stage light and dressing room dark.
