Kate had an idea about the monster that Fuwa had seen. It was the curse of a heretical cult she'd once read about in a book. The monster had been made to appear by a follower of that cult who thought ill of him. The previous sister must have noticed something and left words that would serve as a clue. "In any case, there's no doubt that a heretical power is at work here." Fuwa and Kate shut themselves in the archive to investigate the clues. And from an ancient text they learned something: those most susceptible to the heretical cult's influence are holy virgins, and the stronger a person's spiritual sensitivity, the more readily symptoms appear. In other words, the one who fit these conditions was Makoto, and when she'd come to the university for the examination she'd been outside the range of the influence, so no symptoms had appeared. And the text also recorded that what protects one from the heretical cult is likewise the power of a virgin. Moreover, the prayer of the 'Tres Marias'—the three holy virgins—is the most effective. But there is no trace of the heretical cult on the island...
