Story
The childhood friends Rio and Mamoru. Though both sense each other's feelings, their vague, unclear relationship leads the two toward despair... Having happened to enter a beauty pageant, Rio becomes involved in idol activities. Mamoru is warned that this very Rio is the prize in 'Sacrifice,' a pastime for the black-hearted powerful. To protect Rio, he too gets involved — as a part-timer, as a participant — but unable to tell Rio the true situation, and exposed to her bewilderment and suspicion, he kept trying, for that one purpose alone: to protect her through to the end. But... the reality thrust before his eyes... Mamoru is made to witness a scene he doesn't want to believe, doesn't want to see. With a desperate cry, the stark-naked Rio reaches out her hand seeking rescue. That hand... Mamoru could not grasp...
Our take
An idol career with a rigged game running underneath it. DearestBlue follows Rio and Mamoru, childhood friends who never close the distance, as the entertainment business pulls them into a game arranged for the amusement of the powerful.
The cover leads with heterochromia, violet and gold, then packs in long crimson hair, an oversized pink ribbon, a black and red stage costume, a choker set with a blue stone. Behind her a purple door stands half open, a suited man's shadow in the gap. In a palette of pink and violet, that blue stone alone carries the title color.
