Story
Older brother Akira and younger sister Yui lived in a single-mother household because their parents had divorced. The stern and serious Akira had looked after Yui, standing in for their father. One morning, Akira is told by Yui that a male student confessed his feelings to her. Akira couldn't hide his agitation at having seen a side of Yui he didn't know. What always came to Akira's mind was the image of Yui as a crybaby who loved to be pampered. He had thought it was his role to always be with her and take care of his little sister. And he understood in his head that a day would come when the grown-up Yui would leave his side. But actually hearing it from Yui's own mouth made a tightness ache deep in Akira's chest. Carrying that unsettled feeling, when night came, Akira was in Yui's bedroom. Akira reached out his hand toward his little sister Yui, who was breathing the comfortable breaths of sleep.
Our take
A quiet piece built almost entirely from one bedroom at night. The cover looks straight down at a girl on white sheets, every fold in pale blue line, the frame held to blue and white. Two phrases sit on the package: sleeping hours, and feelings overlapping.
The uniform is a white sailor top with navy collar, red scarf and navy pleats, and chestnut hair with green eyes lifts off that soft ground. Line work is fine, with flushed cheeks and drawn lashes carrying it under light like a night lamp.
