Story
Kazuki Okino is an ordinary student. His daily life is a bit noisy, but there's a modest happiness in it — brought about by the presence of two women. His little sister Rinka. She's a prankster who does things to trouble him, but she adores Kazuki. And the other is his childhood friend Otome Sakuragi. A year older, she's forever fussing over him. Beautiful and well-figured, she's the object of the boys' admiration throughout the academy. Otome's fussing had become an ingrained part of Kazuki's life. Without his sister even needing to point it out, they look like nothing so much as a newlywed couple. The two are mutually in love, yet neither has ever confessed, and they aren't going out as a couple. They haven't taken that step beyond childhood friends, but Kazuki figured that if things went on like this, they'd start dating as lovers and eventually marry. He thought he need only wait for the happiness lying just beyond his reach to come to him. But that faint happiness begins to be shattered by a single DVD delivered to Kazuki...
Our take
Otomedori Vol.1 is a schoolgirl hentai anime built on contrast, adapted from the manga by Natsuan. The cover pairs pink hair, a red headband, a white blouse and a red pleated skirt with a ribbon around the wrists.
Pink and white dominate the palette, with shadows pushed toward pale violet. Dark interiors and coarse older hands cut into that softness, so pale skin reads as the brightest thing on screen. Wide blue eyes, eyebrow angles and beads of sweat separate one expression from the next.
Produced by Mary Jane, this first volume sets up the world of a childhood friend and a younger sister. The samples show how far the color falls.
